Freedoms Foundation's Awards Programs

George Washington Honor Medal

In no other way has Freedoms Foundation touched the lives of so many people nationwide than with our Awards Programs.

National Awards Program

Through the National Awards Program, Freedoms Foundation has honored more than 56,000 individuals from all walks of life – the famous and the unknown, the young and old – from Maine to Hawaii.

This program was intended as a way to say thank you to those whose projects, words or deeds reflect the best of the American spirit of volunteerism by offering constructive solutions to contemporary problems. We search for those doing good work in their communities, people or organizations bringing about the best in the spirit of America.

Leavey Awards for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education

One of the more important aspects of Freedoms Foundation’s Awards programs is the emphasis it puts on rewarding educators who teach the private enterprise system. It is essential to the future of our freedoms and our way of life that young people today – our future leaders – develop an understanding of and enthusiasm for this facet of the American system.

It was this belief that led trustees of The Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation to generously endow the Leavey Awards for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education. This prestigious cash award of $7,500 is given to full time educators who have an innovative way of teaching America’s private enterprise system. A special award of $15,000 can be given for an unusually meritorious entry. Since the program’s inception in 1977, nearly $3 million have been distributed to educators in 45 states.

Distinguished Awards

The Distinguished Awards, Freedoms Foundation’s most prestigious award, was generously endowed by Dr. Robert Pamplin, Jr. and Robert Pamplin Sr., in 1992. They recognized the importance of honoring and recognizing outstanding Americans as a way to inspire and encourage others. By honoring individuals, Freedoms Foundation hopes to inspire and encourage others to become selfless in their efforts to make our America a better place for all.

Since 1949, over 265 outstanding leaders have been presented Distinguished Awards. Former recipients of the award include Vice President and Mrs. Cheney, Senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole, tennis great Arthur Ashe, Gulf War General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, NFL quarterback Steven Young and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
