Program D – Medal of Honor Experience
Age Level 5th grade – 12th grade

During your two-hour stay, you will walk the trails the Medal of Honor Grove viewing the thousands of plaques that stand to honor and celebrate the acts of heroism and valor carried out by these recipients. A one-acre plot is dedicated to each of the 50 states, including Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. The focal point of each area is a seven foot seven inch high obelisk patterned after the Washington Monument. Within the state area, a tree marker is placed beside a planting for each recipient. Each marker gives the name, rank, unit, date and place of action of the recipient.

Throughout your stay, you will be joined by a Medal of Honor recipient from your state who will share with you his story and the legacy of the Medal. Your students will take home a sense of understanding and attachment with one of the nation’s most venerated heroes.

Finally, your adventure concludes with an invigorating flag ceremony celebrating our freedoms and your experience.
